Nineteen top recording artistes from across Africa, including D’Banj and Femi Kuti from Nigeria, DR Congo’s FallyIpupa, Cote d’Ivoire’s TikenJahFakoly, Kenya’s Juliani, and South Africa’s Judith Sephuma, all came together to help rebrand agriculture and tell African youths that their future lies literally beneath their feet—and in their hands.
Omawunmi:
The Warri born singer, who stamped her feet in the music industry has finally decided to diversify as she joined forces with other top artistes across the country in support of the campaign, tagged Do Agric, It pays.
She, however, did not fail to remember childhood years, which she spent cultivating on a large plot of land owned by her father.
“I am actively involved in this campaign and I am one of the musicians who featured in ONE.org’s theme project song Cocoa na Chocolate, because we Africans, especially youth, need to be actively involved in agriculture.
“It is wrong to see agriculture as a profession for archaic and dirty people because it can create employment for a lot of people”
Vusi Nova:
The South African singer, Vusi Nova, during an interview, stated that Nigerian musicians had taken music to a whole new level; he further said that a singer would have to come to Nigeria before he/she would make a mark on the continent.
“I think Nigerian artistes are in a league of their own. In South Africa, we are doing well; the industry is growing, but can’t be compared with Nigeria.
“Nigeria has the highest number of international collaborations and it counts for something.
“I would also love to do a song with Omawunmi because she has great vocals…I know I’m doing a song with D’banj and hopefully, Davido’’, Nova said.
“I also believe that getting involved with ONE.org is a starting point for greater things. I love everything that the campaign stands for.
Diamond:
The Tanzanian artiste, Diamond, as he is called, also pushed the campaign for agriculture. The young man also did a collaboration with Davido, hoping to be well known in West Africa.
”I met Davido when he came to Tanzania for a show and he heard my song when we were together.
“I told him that I would love to feature him on the remix of my song, Number One, and he agreed.
“Currently the song is topping charts in various African countries.”
Dama Do Bling:
The diva from Mozambique told us in an interview about her career, her first song Haters and her first performance.
She further talked about ONE.org’s theme song stating that it was her first continental project.
“I am currently working on the project with ONE.org and I must say I’m enjoying every bit of it.
“Its time our youths get involved in agriculture because everything we have and use, cloths, shoes and other are somehow linked to agriculture.”
