Nollywood begins quest for “Best Foreign Language Film” Priz as NOSC calls for submission

The Nigerian Oscars Selection Committee (NOSC) has announced that it has started accepting submissions for its inaugural selection edition for Nigerian movies.

The submission process for films, billed to last only a month, will begin from June 16 and end on July 16.

In line with the committee’s commitment to screening the finest and boldest works from Nigerian cinema, the committee will accept films of all lengths and genres.

However, eligibility is based on the fact that films must be from Nigerian filmmakers living in Nigeria and Diaspora whose films relate to Nigeria  and the recording of the original dialogue track as well as the completed picture must be predominantly in a language or languages other than English.

Also, apart from accurate English subtitles required, the motion picture must have been first released in Nigeria not earlier than October 1, 2013 and not later than September 30, 2014.

Eligible entries must reach the office of the Nigerian Oscars Selection Committee on or before July 16 and submissions can be done by post at the committee’s address on House 2, Block 101, Plot 8, Furo Ezimora Street, Lekki Residential Scheme, Phase 1 Lagos, Nigeria.

The Nigerian Oscars Selection Committee (NOSC) focuses on choosing high quality films from Nigeria and all eligible submissions will be reviewed and selected based on the quality of the filmís narrative and its production values.

The Nigerian Oscars Selection Committee (NOSC) said it will endeavour to complete all selection procedures by 1 September, 2014 and Nigeriaís officially selected film for the Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards will be announced on a gala night shortly after.

The move follows the introduction of  the Nigerian Oscar Selection Committee a few weeks ago.

And it means from 2015, Nigerian movies will start competing the Best Foreign Language Film category of the Academy Awards, popularly called  The Oscars.

Chineze Anyaele, director of impressive film, Ije, chairs the 12-member selection committee which includes notable film critic, Shuaibu Hussein, filmakers, Charles Novia and Mildred Okwo as well as founder of the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF), Chioma Ude; actor, Ramsey Nouah and others.
