Adebimpe Bello, Chief Executive Officer of I & Me, started her passion for beading when she was still a student at the University of Lagos.
Today that passion has not only grown to become a big business for her but is helping to teach others who otherwise would have joined the endless list of job seekers, the virtue of self reliance.
Bello was at the corporate headquarters of Independent Newspapers Limited recently and Senior Reporter, Anthonia Soyingbe had a brief chat with her on her passion.
Take us down memory lane to your beginning?
I started making beads about 13 years ago. Then beads were not in vogue and only a few of us were into beadings. The story is different now as almost everyone is put anything together in the name of beads. I try as much as possible to use good materials and give warranty on my beads. I started with quality and still producing quality.
What will happen to your business when beads are no longer in vogue?
Never will beads stop being fashionable. It is all about creativity. The existence of beads predates us all. If it has survived centuries, it means it will always remain in vogue. Beads are precious and timeless ornaments. There are lots of prospects in this business but you need to be patient and extremely prayerful.
How is your beading business now that you have relocated to South Africa?
I work for great people who love my beads. My work has gone beyond Africa because I have distributors in Europe and America. My work speaks for itself that is why I insist on quality. I have passion for good things and love creativity. I love beautiful women who take good care of themselves.
What has kept you in this business since you started 13 years back?
God! I also have great people who really appreciate me.
