The exit of the Super Eagles, at the ongoing World Cup in Brazil, has continued to generate a lot of comment from Nigerians. Football buffs in Nollywood have also lent their voices to the disappointing exit. Here are comments from some prominent Nollywood practitioners about the match and Eagle’s performance at the World Cup.
Ejike Asiegbu
Nollywood actor, Ejike Asiegbu sees the loss as a wake up call and asks Nigerians to allow Keshi to build a better team. He called on the Nigerian Football Association to allow Coach Stephen Keshi continue. According to Ejike, Keshi is a good coach and we can see that the team is improving gradually with this impressive performance that we are all celebrating this evening, so they should let him be.
“I am not in support of a foreign coach all the time. Let’s appreciate our own and encourage others to come up. Keshi is a good coach and he needs to be given the chance. We have good local coaches in this country. The actor further praised the performance of Ahmed Musa who scored Nigeria’s two goals in the tournament, acknowledging him as one of the best players in the squad, and also the effort of the team in general.
Kunle Afolayan
Kunle Afolayan, thinks after the loss is a time for Nigeria to take our minds back on other problems facing the country. “Fair play by our boys. Back to reality, let’s face the problems at hand,” he said.
John Njamah
The actor, director believes that the players deserve credit for doing their best. His words, “They did their best and we could see that. They held the game and had better possessions but sad to say we do not have finishers and we lost grip at the tail end of the game, but by and large they did well. I think I like our new jersey.”
Seun Oloketuyi
“It is a sad day that we didn’t break the second round jinx but overall the boys played well and I am proud to be a Nigerian,” Says Best of Nollywood CEO, Seun Oloketuyi.
Julia Blaise
Movie blogger, Julia Blaise says about the match, “I don’t think it’s Yobo’s fault. Whether the own goal came or not, we had already lost 1-0. We tried but couldn’t get there. We improved but couldn’t get it entirely right. A lot of things went wrong. It wasn’t one person’s fault, after all Enyeama ran out of the goal post that actually caused the first goal and he made the same mistake the second time, leading Yobo to score own goal.”
Owen Gee
Actor and comedian Owen Gee was all praises for the team. “A wonderful performance by Nigeria’s Super Eagles. I am very proud of their play. Stephen Keshi has given us a squad for the future and they should be celebrated. A moment of lack of concentration cost us the second round but that’s okay, we should let Keshi continue his rebuilding culture and continue to discover new talents like Micheal Babatunde, Oshaniwa and the rest.
Obi Smith
“Keshi saw all the rubbish Mikel had been playing right from the first match, yet he choose to turn a blind eye to it. What kind of coach is so openly biased, Ejike Uzoeyin, Shola Ameobi where good to warm the bench while Mikel spilled balls. The Nigeria team were never serious and to be honest, we got more serious issues as a Nation. What a way for Yobo to end his career, 12 great years three world cups, Three nations cup and such an inspiring figure,” said actor Obi Smith
