There is a reason he is called Olasax and that is not because of his ministration with the saxophone but because of the way he handles the instrument which make him look like the Kunle Ajayi of the future.
Though Gbaja Olaoluwa Samuel is his real name, but while deep for passion for what he does, he has earned himself the pseudonym “Olasax”.
As a child Olasax had always been a lover of music and it didn’t come as a surprise that he will be into full time music when he got older.
When asked how it all started, he said: “This was during my secondary school days and I should say it grew on me, because I entered into the world of entertainment in 2007 at the age of 13”
The saxophonist who is currently studying physical and health education in Lagos State University (LASU) recognised his ability to use the musical instrument as a gift and decided it was only right to follow his natural inclination when he grew into adulthood. “As I grew into music, my sense of reasoning to explore further got into me, so I decided to practise more and test myself”.
After secondary school, Olasax opted for musical instrument practice where he got the opportunity to learn more musical instrumentals.
“After school, I decided to learn more musical instruments. But for now, I specialise in drums and keyboard, apart from my saxophone”.
The Badagry born artiste said his choice to be a performing artist was not because of materialistic gains or fame, but to thank God for giving him the opportunity.
“God, let’s say God, because, I love him so much. He is marvelous in my life. So, the only way I can express myself to him is through music”.
He claims God is the most important in his life and his main inspiration as his family, especially his father, wasn’t in support of his music career.
“No, my family wasn’t in support of this at all. Not at all, in short, at first, it was very difficult because my father wasn’t in tune with my music career.
“He wanted me to became a lawyer even though I was studying Physical Health Education in school.
“But when he saw God in action, he didn’t have a choice, but to let me go.”
The Badagry-born artiste, who apart from loving his music world, is also a stage dramatist, is known for performing stage plays for local churches in the area.
In line with his music career and stage acting, he has done over 20 stage performances.
Olaoluwa described his work of art as inspirational. Though his album is yet to be released, he has done two singles, which are basically in jazz and instrumentals.
He hopes his music will go worldwide, as he dreams of being one of the greatest saxophonists in the world.
“I dream of being one of the greatest saxophonist in the world”, he said, adding that when he achieves his dreams, he hopes to be a bright light to other upcoming artiste.
“Because of how I started, I hope to be an inspiration to other upcoming artistes; when I make it, I will help others who also wants to be like me, because its not really easy trying to come out this days when you have bigger stars.
“By the,n I will have a name and brand of my own, so as to help other people who upcoming like me in the near future”.
To back that up, Olaoluwa stepped up his dreams by joining the famous Kunle Ajayi band from the Redeem Church of God (RCCG), based on his dedication and talent.
He said he never knew how things would be, but he knew that God was on his side when he met the famous saxophonist.
“I knew immediately that God wanted to do something for me when I met Pastor Kunle Ajayi and I was able to join the band through a friend who introduced me to him after a ministration I did at the Redeem Area Headquarters, Solution Centre in Baruwa, Ipaja.
“I actually met him at Ebute Metta branch where I was able to join his band after his approval of me. My parents were so proud and I knew I was doing the right thing”.
Venturing into the kind of music he wants to sell out to his listeners, he intends to make his music bring out the happiness into the lips of everyone who listens to his it.
“So, for now, I want to minister pure praise and worship in jazz format”.
He proved it in his concert which took place at the Redeemed Christian Church of God “Possibility Chapel”, where he played away his heart felt music and proved he was actually going to be one of the rising stars when it comes to jazz and soul music.
Apart from his music, he got the opportunity to invite other artiste into the block where truly happiness flowed on the lips of everyone who listened.
