Gloria Chiazor, popularly known as Tega, is one of the fast rising actresses making waves in Nollywood. The Akwukwu Igbo, Delta State lady spoke with Assistant Editor, Sam Anokam, about her career, love life and more.
Tell us why you prefer to be an actress and not something else.
I chose to be an actress and not a different career because when I was a little child, I always see myself acting while sleeping and dreaming. I also discovered that no other career gives me the satisfaction I get each time I’m acting on a movie set.
So far, how many movies have you featured in?
I have featured in a couple of movies amongst which are Seven days before Christ, Satanic Mission, My Sweat, Spoilers, Fall of a Hero, Esiri Goes Home, Market Babes, Bloomsberry Hotel, Witches in Rakaba, among many others.
How daring are you on movie set
When it comes to acting on a movie set, I can be more daring than I’d ever thought.
Aside acting, what other thing do you do?
I work as a project coordinator. I’m also a fashion designer. I also sell cloths and weave-on (100% human hair)
What makes you unique in Nollywood?
I think my ability to always have a different interpretation to every script or role given to me
Tonto Dike says she wouldn’t mind baring it all in movie if the pay is really huge. Do you share same opinion
When it comes to movies and attitude towards it, to me, it’s not just the money or pay but the passion one has for it so I wouldn’t say yes or no to the question until I get a script that demands that and I will really scrutinise it before anything.
What is it about acting that thrills you
What thrills me most about acting is that it is a different world and lifestyle entirely from the one everyone is in and yet it reaches out to everybody irrespective of your belief.
If you weren’t an actress what would you have been?
I would have been a medical doctor.
Who is your best actor in Nollywood and why
It used to be Ramsey Nouah but now there are too many of them.
Have you been sexually harassed for a movie role?
I have been harassed on countless occasions for movie roles. I was told by a particular producer that I have a killing shape and that if I want that particular job that I’ll get it only if he beds me and that was after passing the audition but the good thing is that my refusal didn’t stop me from getting acting roles anyway because of the polite, friendly and mature manner I turned them down.
Who are the guys you admire in Nollywood and why
There are so many of them like Mike Ezeruonye, Emeka Ike, Majid Micheal, Frank Artus, Lawrence Onuzulike, Nonso Diobi, among many others but amongst these ones I admire Majid Michael most because he acts with a lot of energy and passion.
I also admire Lurrenzo because he is one actor that is calm and does his own things without stressing others.
What does style mean to you?
Colourful, simple and classic.
Could you tell us a little bit about your love life
I am a single lady who has put in so much in my past relationship, which didn’t work. For now, I am so single but still have a heart that can love again; that’s all I can say for now.
When you had a heartbreak, what did you do to wriggle out of it?
Heartbreaks are always difficult to wriggle out of but the good thing about me is that I have learnt never to feel bad for too long because I always tell myself that, for the fact that I am no longer needed in a relationship doesn’t mean that I am not good enough but it simply means, that person is no longer good enough for me, with these I move on with my life.
