The National President, Islamic Progressive Association of Nigeria (IPAN), Sheikh (Chief) Abdul-Rahman Adegboyega-Lawal, has said that the Worldwide Muslims Ramadan in this month is one of the most firmly established values of Islam, that has significant moral, social, spiritual and economic benefits of reformation of character and social harmony.
Sheik Lawal, who is also the National Coordinator, AS-SALAM Praying Centre, Nigeria, who stated this in a release, said the reason behind the command to fast in the month of Ramadan is to increase the faithful in the fear of Allah and piety.
Quoting Suratul Baqarah Chapter 2:183, Lawal said, “Oye who believe, fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become pious” (those who fear God).
According to the Imam, “Fear of God is an overarching quality of a believer that Allah stresses endlessly in the Quran, hence, this Ramadan fast in this Month of Ramadan increases Muslims in this fear of Allah.
“Two things that make the fast unique are – It is the month – Quran – the greatest guidance for mankind was revealed – There is a night worship in which is equal to the worship of Allah for 1000 months – Laylatul-Qadril – The Night of Majesty”.
The Islamic scholar, who is also the Baale of Molunkan-Lalupon via Ibadan, Nigeria, further listed five special gifts of the Ramadan fast.
These according to him, are: “Allah will look on all Muslims with mercy on the first night of Ramadan; The smell from the mouth of the fasting faithful is very precious to Allah; The angels will be asking for forgiveness for the fasting Muslims, Allah (SWT) will command paradise to be ready for the pious ones (those who fear God) and Allah will forgive all fasting Muslims on the last”.
