The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, plans to enter into partnership with the Anambra State government in the areas of aquaculture development, farm mechanisation and other investment opportunities that abound in the state.

Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Akinwumi Adesina, stated this when he received the Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, and other officials in his Abuja office .

The minister commended the governor for what he has been able to achieve in  office within 100 days, especially the revamping of the Omo Rice Mill.

He also praised the commitment of the governor and promised to fasttrack the Omo Staple Crops Processing Zone.

Adesina stressed the need to convene a high-level meeting between the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Anambra State Government to work out modalities for the expected partnership.

Earlier in his remarks, Obiano enumerated the investment opportunities in the state such as rice, cassava, tomato processing and other positive areas that could attract more than 100,000 jobs in the state.

Obiano also stated his intention of ensuring that each of the Local Government Areas in the state is self-sufficient in fish farming in less than one year.

The governor said he had resolved to make Anambra the first agro-state in Nigeria, adding that the government had secured land from communities and would be willing to engage in dry season farming.

He also assured that the state would produce 120,000 metric tonnes of rice every year.
