Box Office can exclusively reveal that the rumour of husband snatching by Yoruba actress, Ronke Odusanya, has some element of truth. The actress is said to have crashed Folape Sokoya and Femi Anibaba’s marriage of 12 years.
When Box Office reached the actress through her social network, she did not deny having an affair with Folape’s husband; she only denied breaking up their marriage.
Folape and Ronke
Falope, who is based in the U.S. with her husband and children, claimed that Ronke, popularly known as Folake ‘Flakky’ Ididowo, had been calling her husband for a long time, saying that they finally began a relationship when Anibaba visited Nigeria and stayed for some months. According to her, the story of their relationship and their pictures together got to her in America.
When Box Office reached Folape online, she said she had nothing more to say on the issue. She, however, gave the contact of a friend who could confirm her claim that Ronke broke her marriage. When we contacted the friend, she sent a long message on what she knows about the story.
Her message read: “I am a very good friend to this lady, Folape Sokoya, and I have known her for almost 10 years now. When this first started in 2008, Folape ‘facebooked’ her (Ronke) to warn her about her secret affair with her husband and also confronted her husband who denied knowing Folake.
“As time went on Mr. Femi Anibaba still went on calling Flakky, even into the late night American time and, as a heavily pregnant woman then, what could she have done? Mr. Femi Anibaba even went to Naija that same year with his second daughter, claiming to be going to see his mum, but when he came back, Folape found pictures of him and Flakky among his belongings; Flakky even took a picture with their daughter. Folape was angry with her husband who denied it all, saying he only took pictures with her because she was a celebrity.
“Let us not be quick to judge anyone; when a man wants to cheat there is nothing anyone can do to stop him let alone a pregnant woman. Now after all, this same Anibaba started fighting his wife. In fact, since I have known Folape and her husband, Folake was the first reason they ever had a big fight.
“Folape called her mother in-law and complained about the Femi and Folake and what her mother in-law said to her then was very disturbing. Her mother in-law said: ‘If Femi marries Flakky, so what?’ and Folape cried all that night.
“I not putting my friend’s business out but I think we all need to know the truth and if Flakky wants to now come out and sound innocent like she is doing now, then she also needs to know that nothing is done in cover under the eye of the Lord. Folake was the main reason they separated. If Folake is really innocent as she claims to be, let her come out and defend herself. I am very sure that in her mind she knows all this is true and only a real woman can own up to the gospel truth.”
Folake in her defence told Box office that most of what Folape and her friend said about her is true. She also said that she and Femi are not engaged, although she does not know what tomorrow would bring.
Her words: “I knew Femi back in 2008 through a very close friend who was in America then and not through actress, Liz da Silva, as speculated.
“When we met via phone, we got talking for a while and I asked him what he does for a living and if he had a family, and he told me he had children but was separated from his wife. I asked him why he was separated and he said things didn’t work out between them. We became friends and talked a lot on the phone and he always talked with me even very late into the night. Gradually, we got very close and I even met his mum and siblings who lived in Lagos then but I still had my doubts about him then because we had not seen each other eye to eye and some men cannot be trusted.
“One day, I got a message on my Facebook from a lady called Folape Sokoya, asking whether I know anyone called Femi Anibaba and I said yes, that he is my friend, and she said: ‘Please, stop talking to him because he is my husband and I’m carrying his third child.’ I was very shocked and embarrassed; even though I had my doubts, I didn’t expect that kind of story.
“I immediately printed out the message and went to his people to show them and I called him and explained everything to him but he told me things were not going on well with both of them and asked me if I didn’t wonder how he had so much time talking to me and that even if I called him anytime of the day, he always picked my calls.
“He said they both lived in the same house but each person minded his or her own business. When he was done, I warned him never to call me again. Later in May 2012 I was in America and I received a mail from him saying he heard I was around and he would like to see me, that he had issues to discuss with me. I refused to see him and he told me he needed me more than anything because his wife had left him and taken the kids away too. I refused to see him and that was it.
“When I got back to Nigeria he called severally and then I decided to talk with him. He then told me he would buy me a ticket to come to his house and see things for myself. Later in September that same year, I went to America and discovered that she had truly left him and ever since, we got talking again.
“Please, help me beg this woman not to rub my good name that I built over the years in the mud. I did not snatch Femi Anibaba from her neither did I separate both of them. She is doing all this because she heard the marriage rumour and thought it is true and jumped in to use this opportunity to spoil my name without any evidence. She should tell everyone the truth. This is my own version and the gospel truth. Heaven is my witness. I only reacted to this because she wants to mess up my name and I don’t like this rumour of me getting married to different men every year. This is my last say on this and I will not exchange words with her in the press,” she said.
