The Music Label Owners Association of Nigeria (MULOAN) have been lamenting the wave of internet jam on the business saying, this is becoming a big threat to the survival of Label Owners in the country.
At a recent stakeholders’ forum held in Lagos, Chairman of the Copyrights Society of Nigeria, Tony Okoroji who chaired the event observed that the fraudsters at the popular Alaba International Market, Lagos have since stopped being threats to the Music industry, “rather, the new trend of threat is found on the internet”, said Okoroji.
According to him, Alaba Market has stopped being a threat to record labels and distributors and the new culprit is the internet.
“Before, you will be afraid that some people will take your work and make copies of it and then sell them but nowadays, things have changed. People now put your songs on the internet and others just go there and download for free,” he lamented.
MULOAN President, Joel Ajayi expressed his delight at the turn out of the event in which participants expressed their minds and came out with profound resolutions to tackle the challenges facing Label Owners in the country.
Ajayi observed that resolutions made at the conference will certainly help push the Association and the Nigerian Movie industry forward.
Speaking about the association he said, “MULOAN is the body of Promoters of Musical Artistes and Marketers of musical products. Our job is to discover people who have talents of music, add value to their talents through creative production and artistic packaging. We also bring them into public domain through extensive advertising”, said Ajayi.
