Winner emerges in Queen Nigeria 2014 pageant

It was a true celebration of beauty, brain and cultural elements at the grand finale of the Queen Nigeria Beauty pageant tagged ‘Beyond Beauty’ as the winner of the 2014 edition finally emerged at the event which held at Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos at an event anchored by Big Brother winner, Uti Nwachukwu.

The event was witnessed by celebrities and guests who converged at the venue from different parts of the country as it showcased the essence of true beauty as exemplified by a cultured Nigerian woman.

At the end of the exercise, Diamond Okoh Obiahu, who represented Ebonyi State, dazzled judges and emerged the Queen Nigeria for the 2014 edition of the pageant.

The first runner-up is Abia State’s rep, Chidinma Oti while the second runner up position went to Lolita Oyibo Onome who hoisted the flag of Delta State. Likewise, the Cross River State rep, Blessing Edidiog emerged as Miss Congeniality while the Miss Photogenic award went to Kaduna State rep, Olive Sadiq.

To spice up theevent, there were many interesting performances by musicians, poets and dancers incluiding Isaac Jerald, Temisan, Calima and Wisdom from the Society for the Performing Arts of Nigeria. Also among performers were Ruby Gyan, Aramide and highly rated soul singer, Bez who thrilled the audience with great performances.

The winner, Diamond Okoh Obiahu, is a 20-year old with a Diploma in Public Administration and is currently studying Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

According to her, “I had no idea I was going to win because all the girls to me were capable of winning the crown. I know I gave my best just like any other person, and I’m very grateful to God that I emerged Queen Nigeria 2014.’

Speaking on the focus of her reign, she said: ‘There are so many children from indigent families who don’t have formal education or access to it. I intend to change that, even if it is just two kids I can start with, who through this platform get an education, it will make a difference and I would be more than happy.”

With N1.5m, a car and other consolation prizes as the benefits attached, Diamond is indeed launched into a new life.

CEO of Famford Enterprise Limited, organisers of the pageant in collaboration with NTA and TV Enterprises, Segun Famodimu, expressed a sense of fulfilment at the event.

“I feel good, it’s been serious hard work, and I bless God for the strength to follow through to the end. I want to thank my team for a job well done and the support they gave towards the success of this event. I pray next year’s edition will be bigger and better and we get more support from sponsors and partners alike,” he said.
