For contributing to fulfilling the medical obligations of the centre, the Pan-African Urological Surgeons Association’s Initiative for Urological Training in Africa (PIUTA), University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, has applauded Mansard Insurance Plc. The insurance company has contributed immensely to the training programmes for the university’s postgraduate students in general urology.

Speaking recently on the centre’s achievement in 2014, its director, Professor Oluwabunmi Olapade-Olaopa, disclosed that Mansard’s support for the centre has been invaluable towards achieving the centre’s accomplishments.

Listing some of the landmark achievements made with the company’s support, Olapade-Olaopa said: “This includes the overseas training and Conference Fellowship for Dr. Sikiru A. Adebayo of Urology Division, Department of Surgery, who was able to attend the Bristol Urology Urodynamic Course in the United Kingdom and the 34th Congress of the Societe Internationale d’Urology held in Glasgow, Scotland, in October 2014.

He noted that Dr. Adebayo and Dr. Ijeoma N. Chibuzo, on behalf of others, presented the patented University of Ibadan/University College Hospital Bladder mannequin, a locally designed teaching aid for supra-pubic catheterisation in low resource countries at the conference in Glasgow. The mannequin was awarded the First Prize for the Best Affordable Technology.

According to Olapade-Olaopa, through the support of Mansard, PIUTA was also able to clear and insure the state-of-the-art endoscopy equipment donated by Karl Storz GMBH (a German company) for advanced urological training fellowships at the University of Ibadan and UCH.

He said the centre was also able to produce Patient Information Leaflets (PIL) in indigenous Nigerian languages.

“A survey of patients on the usefulness of the PIL revealed that the leaflets were very useful as they understood the information provided on the diseases and their treatment.

“Part of the fund from Mansard also provided support for the development of a Yoruba language Human and Veterinary Medical Dictionary,” Olapade-Olopade said.

The HOD added that the annual funding of the centre by Mansard is a worthy initiative that supports health professionals’ education and healthcare delivery, which corporate organisations in Nigeria ought to emulate.
