The Spiritual Head and President of the Cherubim & Seraphim (C&S) Church Worldwide, His Eminence, Most Elder Michael Oladipupo Adegorusen Adenaya, has assured that the church will take its rightful place during his tenure, and that his focus will be to organise crusades and whole Christ-based messages. He spoke during an interview with Senior Correspondent, ARAMIDE OIKELOME. Excerpts:

How do you intend to carry on with the work the leaders of the church left for you?
I give glory to the Almighty God; He is the doer of everything. I really appreciate God for what He has done for C&S; concerning the movement of this organisation, I put God first, and we commit everything to the hands of God; it is the church of the Lord, a Christian organisation, and it is the first African indigenous church. When I say indigenous, St. Moses Orimolade Tunolase, is the first African church founder. Especially in this organisation, my vision is to preach Christ. I’m not here to tell stories; it is to preach Christ to the outside world. We want every Christian organisation to know who Christ really is. There was a day I was asking someone: ‘What is your calling? What does the Lord asks you to do concerning this call? Did you receive the call directly from God?’ In his statement, Christ is left behind, so I made him understand. My vision for the C&S is to preach Christ to the outside world; our vision in the C&S, and particularly my goal, is to seek first, the kingdom of God.
How do you intend to spread this gospel?
Actually, we are going to start with crusades first, and we will extend it to all places through media publications and mass-oriented publicity. There are going to be crusade. I’m here to revive it.
There seems to be a paradigm shift from the old generation to the young; you are a sharp departure from what obtained in the past. So, how do you want to carry the old ministers along?
Really, they are our fathers. Now, it’s a new dawn; it’s a new beginning in C&S. They are our fathers, and they must give us free hand to operate, we need to give the new ones thorough orientation on the new ways of doing things, we need to tutor them about Christendom and about this organisation. There was a sermon I preached sometime ago when they were asking me who Christians are. Some people believe Christians are just followers of Christ; Christians are small gods. Today, we are going to make them understand what their calling entails, what God wants them to be.
The C&S church seems to be a church with so many excesses, how do you intend to curb these excesses in the body of Christ?
I wouldn’t mind anybody calling C&S an independent church, I don’t believe in doctrines; I believe the Holy Spirit is the master teacher. Let us pray the Holy Spirit teaches us; He is the teacher.
There seems to be a kind of competition and ractions in the C&S, can you clarify and explain the structure of the church, and why there are factions?
There are factions in C&S, but I want you to understand that C&S is one. The church was founded by the late Moses Orimolade Tunolase; he was the sole founder, no one else. Concerning the factionalisation, it is due to the fact that there are some rebels against St. Moses Orimolade Tunolase. They said St. Moses was an illiterate and handicapped, they said they couldn’t follow him. For this reason, they left. But today, I’m sitting on the seat of St. Moses Orimolade Tunaolase, by the court judgment of 1999. We have C&S as a whole and I am going to bring C&S back to this forum in the name of Jesus Christ.
It means you are the overall header, or what is your position in the church?
Christ is the overall head, but now, I am the spiritual head and the President of the C&S Church Worldwide. It is called the Eternal Sacred Order of the Cherubim and Seraphim Church Incorporated, RC 316. That was what Baba Tunolase registered. This is the Supreme Office.
I can see you with a horse tail, is it part of the office?
Baba’s name was Orimolade, meaning “The head that wears the crown”. He is from a royal house, I’m from a royal lineage too, as you can see my name is Adegorusen, so this was the way Baba dressed while he was alive, he used the horse tail with his staff and his crown.
Are you an apostle, pastor, reverend or what title are you to be addressed?
I’m the Alagba V. His Eminence, Most Elder Michael Oladiupo Adegorusen Adenaya, the Most Senior Elder, today.
For the Christian body as a whole, there is a kind of confusion today, as a particular word may be preached in different ways, what is your advice?
I don’t have anything to say about that, I just have an advice. Whether you are of Appolos or of Paul, I believe Christ is one, let us all understand we are Christians. We must not differentiate from ourselves, so far we are one in Christ, and heaven is our goal.
What is your comment on the state of the nation?
We pray about this country; we pray that God helps us to overcome these challenges in the country. I pray God intervenes in this country and I believe He will surely do in Jesus’ name.
