The planned invasion of the National Headquarters of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) located on 19 Ajao Road, Surulere, Lagos last Friday March 20 by the factional leader of the guild, Emeka Ike was abruptly ditched and aborted.
The actor had invited a cross section of the media and thespians loyal to him to attend his intended takeover of the mantle of leadership from the guild’s embattled President, Fiberisima Ibinabo.
It was rumoured that after the purported overthrow of the office, Ike would have addressed the media, stating his agenda for the association.
It was reported that Ike who had the record of the court litigations against the sacked headship of the AGN and its Board of Trustees (BOT ) had wanted to rely on the judgment of the Federal High Court’s nullification to assume the control of the actors’ body.
It would be recalled that Justice James Tsoho of the Federal High Court, Lagos had on Monday March 15 2015 declared the presiding of the affairs of the AGN by Ibinabo a nullity.
Thereafter, the BOT and the AGN proceeded to the Court of Appeal in Lagos to seek for a reversal of the judgment of Justice Tsoho.
They argue that the honorable judge erred in law in holding that the plaintiff, an expelled member of the guild, St. Maradona Mikevine Johnson has the locus standing to bring the action at the Federal High Court.
But luck was against Emeka Ike as his efforts at storming the Guild’s office were unfruitful. However, an actor named Tupac who showed up was sent away by members of the AGN that were there to effect sanity.
Ike allegedly sent members of the Odua People’s Congress (OPC) to facilitate his entry but the men soft-pedalled after listening to the AGN; they left without any fuss. It is not certain if Emeka Ike will make another attempt to invade the AGN office.
