Whenever his name is mentioned, it is usually associated with controversy. If he was not stranded in Libya or arrested for constituting public nuisance, it would be that he is accusing public office holders of corruption. This time, Bashiru Lawrence popularly known as Bash Ali has drawn the irk of the President of National Youth Council, Henry Nwabueze. Obviously miffed by Ali’s incessant outbursts, Nwabueze has cautioned the Nigerian boxing legend to stop blackmailing public office holders and do something meaning ful with his life.
Nwabueze said: “Bash Ali should stop accusing public office holders for asking for bribe which he has no evidence till date. He should instead think of training Young Nigerians who are interested in boxing rather than trying to intimidate public office holders with allegation of bribery when he has nothing doing currently.
He accused Patrick Ekeji the then DG. National Sports Commission, he accused the former Minister of Sports Bolaji Abdullahi of bribery and later apologised to the Minister publicly. Now, it is Nexim Bank.
“We therefore call on President Buhari not to allow Bash Ali to drag him into playing dirty with his exalted office. All over the world, professional boxers do not fight their government to host or promote fight for them like Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao, Samuel Peters, Joe Lasisi, Mike Tyson, Rick Carmlin and others.
We further call on President Buhari to disregard Bash Ali’s call to fight public officers who are going about doing their lawful duties. The Nigerian youth will no longer allow any person to disrupt the peace and unity of this country.
From our findings, we gathered that the boxers never represented Nigeria throughout his career as a boxer, why then, will he now decide to drag Nigeria into his ambition, we therefore advise him to stop harassing any public office holder carrying out his or her lawful duties for the growth of Nigeria and Nigerian youths.”
