After much hype and buzz, the Do Good television drama was finally premiered in Lagos on Monday. The premiere took place at the Oriental Hotel in Lagos, with hundreds of guests in attendance. The event featured both a short and full length screening of the 30 minutes show and it also turned out to be a party as well.

The host for the night was comedian Bovi who kept the audience reeling with laughter at every interval. There were also performances by various artistes and comedians. On stage was Woju crooner, Kiss Daniel, who got all the guests on their feet as he performed his popular songs.  Comedian Mong Kals was also on stage, doing what he knows how to do best. Some of the celebrity guests were Funky Malam, Iyanya, Yibo Koko, Segun Arinze, Emem Isong, Charles Novia, Ini Edo, Funmi Holder, Toyin Aimakhu, Olisa Adibua, and Funmilola Aofiyebi-Raimi.

The drama is a spin-off from the 90’s drama, Candle Light which was produced by Zeb Ejiro. The Character DoGood was played by Basorge Tariah Jr in Candle light and will continue to be played by him in this new twist. According to Africa Magic, Zeb Ejiro was duly consulted for the project and he has given his go-ahead since he created the character in the first place.

The new story is about DoGood who left Nigeria in search of a better life leaving behind his heartthrob, Emem with a promise to be back in two years. Ten years later, he has returned, unfulfilled, but laden with fantastic stories of his sojourn across Africa and Europe. In his bid to earn an honest living, he is now a car mechanic, a vocation he claimed he acquired in Europe.

Emem on the other hand, has become a succesful entrepreneur with her own restaurant.

When DoGood meets Emem, it is not quite the reunion he had in mind. Emem now has ‘serious’ suitors competing for her affection. While these obstacles threaten to prevent them from rekindling their love affair, DoGood is undaunted and contrives various hilarious and exciting means to get his woman back.

DoGood features top acts like Kate Henshaw, Bellinda Effah, Joselyn Dumas, Yibo Koko as well as cameo appearances by some of Africa›s leading comedians. Though it is still too early for a proper review, one can describe DoGood as a good attempt to create a very hilarious and addictive drama with a little bit off slapstick. From the first episode, one can safely say they succeeded. It will surely be an instant hit with viewers.

When Box Office spoke with Wangi Mba-Uzo-Ukwu, the head of Africa Magic, she was excited about their new project. “At Africa Magic we always bring out the best because it is a pride to nurture our own. We stay true to Nigeria because it is the headquarters of Africa Magic. DoGood is not only for Nigerians it is for everyone on the continent. It is one in a long line of more things to come,” said Wangi.

Basorge Tariah Jr himself was ecstatic about the return of his character. “This is a character that has continued to follow me about over the years. I will be in London and someone will call me DoGood from nowhere. Same goes for everywhere I travel to, they call me DoGood, after all these years. So I decided to revive the character. We scripted a new show, after we got permission from Zeb Ejiro. Africa Magic keyed into it and we are happy that we will be on air. It is very fulfilling,” said Tariah Jr.
