The music scene in Nigeria is taking a new turn. While the scene is understandably a showbiz world, there seems a new craze for celebrities to meet new government personalities.

Davido
From Five Star Entertainment artistes, KCee and Harrysong, DB Record’s D’banj who recently celebrated his 2015 MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA) Evolution Award with newly appointed Vice President and Treasurer of the World Bank Arunma Oteh and Davido, it is no different, as the hunger to meet these new personalities in public offices seems insatiable.
While it is understandable for artistes such as D’banj, KCee and Harrysong who are basically enjoying their music career, same cannot be said of Davido whose list of challenges begging to be surmounted seems insurmountable.
Some of Davido’s many challenges include his trouble with the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), who are currently investigating him over an impression he created in his latest music video titled, ‘Fans Mi’ featuring American rapper, Meek Mills. Based on the provisions of the NDLEA laws, if Davido is found guilty of trying to encourage youths to toe the line of drugs via his video, he is likely to spend 15 years in jail.
Scary as this might sound, Davido is undaunted. Asides this, Davido also has other issues with his music career, as he has changed the release date of his sophomore album, Baddest more than three times.
Having initially said that the album would be dropping in the last quarter of 2014, it was changed to June of the following year, he soon moved up the release date to August 10, and just when his fans were expecting to pick Baddest from the shelves he dropped another bomb on them saying via a statement released by his management team, Twenty20 media led by Kamal Ajiboye, ‘the official release date for the much-anticipated album will now be in September 2015.”
While no specific reason was given for the swing in the release date of Baddest, it seems puzzling that Davido’s main interest presently is to join the bandwagon to meet Vice President Oluyemi Osinbajo, forgetting that he has the interest of his fans to meet and his image to protect.
Now that Davido has met with the second man in the country, his fans can only hope and pray that he goes back to the studio and put finishing touches to his album, at least if for now, let it be that the new release date of his album stands.
