Beyond preaching, members of the Lagos Mainland Conference of Seventh Day Adventist Church in Nigeria have demonstrated their commitment to saving lives by freely donating blood to the needy. This, they demonstrated their love recently when they turned out en-mass to voluntarily donate blood at their Church headquarter in Maryland, Lagos. Their gesture was part of activities to mark this year Global Youth Day celebration that was celebrated in the Adventist Churches globally.

Though it was a youth day, both men and women actively participated to walk their talk by demonstrating God’s love in line with the teachings of their master, Jesus Christ.
The President of the Mainland Conference, Pastor Emmanuel Adeniyi noted that their action was “to mirror what our master Jesus did when He was here over 2000 year ago, preaching the gospel to the brokenhearted, proclaiming liberty to the captives, recovering sight to the blind and setting at liberty those who were oppressed.”
“ The programme has become an annual event that affords Adventist Church members the opportunity to help and show act of kindness to their neighbours, friends and workmates by rendering selfless service to humanity,’’ Adeniyi said.
In the same spirit, the Conference Youth Director, Pastor Olufemi Okorie, noted that the 2015 edition was a tremendous improvement when compared that the two previous exercises. He urged the youths and the entire members not to relent in their efforts to put smile on the faces of the hopeless.
‘”We are happy that all of us can be part of this project. We encouraged you to donate blood in order to give life to the lifeless and give hope to the hopeless. May God bless you abundantly as you do so,’’ Okorie prayed.
One of the donors, Master Guide, Obinna Afonne, shared his experience with Daily Independent after the exercise, saying that he has overcome the fear he had been nursing with respect of blood donation.
“Initially, I was scared of donating blood for fear of the unknown or let me say because of some stereotypes I was used to. I want to advice those who have never donated before to do so because it is good for their body. Am happy to have participated and give to the needy. It is worth doing as a Christian,’’ said Afonne.
The programme was successfully carried out in conjunction with the management of Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Blood Transfusion Agency, National Orhtopaedic Hospital, Igbobi and other agencies.
