For some, Ayo Adesanya is one of Nollywood’s queens of controversy. However, the lady thinks otherwise. In a recent chat with REPORTER, Lukmon Akintola, she talked about the controversies of her career, romance and more.
You are one of the actresses who started acting at a tender age, can you flashback to that period?
Acting started for me like you know at a young age. In fact, I started acting right from primary school. The Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) gave me the opportunity to discover my talent.
How did NTA help your career?
In those days, they would bring cameras to our school and we would act different plays most especially Shakespeare.
At what time did you decide to go professional?
First and foremost I had to go to school. I studied communication arts at the University of Ibadan, but my movie career proper started when I went to
African Independent Television (AIT) for an audition. Other auditions would later come because I auditioned for Opa Williams’ movie Onome. I later did Tunji Bamishigbin’s soap, Palace.
What has been the biggest challenge of your career?
Basically, the general production challenges are what I have faced. Like being asked to leave location due to time constrains. The challenges are numerous. The challenges as a producer are also unlimited because there would be days when production would be like hell and times when things will work out perfectly.
Let’s talk about you and Goriola Hassan.
There is nothing to talk about there. He is my past.
But you had a child for him, doesn’t that count?
Yes, we have a child together, but all that is now in the past.
What was the nature of the relationship you both of you shared while it lasted?
We lived together and had a child but we were never married.
Are you saying there no room for reconciliation in future because there were allegations that he abused you physically while you were together?
I don’t want us to dwell on this issue. I don’t want to talk about it. I have moved on and so has he. I am living my life. Goriola is a closed chapter in my life; it is one of those things in life. Life continues.
Has your experience with him changed your perception of love?
No. Presently, I am in a relationship and I am enjoying it.
Would you consider marriage in this relationship?
Why not? I am still young and will definitely get married again someday.
What makes you unique as a person?
I try not to brood over things in my past. That is one of the things that make me unique. There are several others.
What do you consider the sexiest part of your body?
My eyes; they are the sexiest part of my body and people always talk about them been sexy and captivating.
Have you ever found yourself in a situation where you said ‘if had I know’?
I have done things that I felt that I should have done the other way, but I thank God for where I am today.
Let’s talk fashion, you are one of those ladies who wear what they like without regard to what people say, areyou not bothered by people’s comments?
I wear what I like and admire. I love to wear what fits me and people’s comment means little to me. I know I have good legs and I like to flaunt them.
You also have this serious addiction for miniskirts too I wear miniskirts and shorts when necessary.
Some people describe you as an arrogant lady, are you aware of this?
I can tell you that I am not arrogant. I am a normal person. A lot of people in Nigeria describe actors and actresses by the roles they interpret in movies, but they forget that we have a different life from what they see in the films. The fact that one plays a witch role in a movie does not make that person to be a witch. There are roles that you will play that people will like you, and there are also roles that you will play that people will feel like she is a bad girl. People should know the difference.
As one who has acted in both the English and Yoruba language movie, can you compare both?
The difference is not much. At least it is not in the quality of the movies. The only difference is that Yoruba movies focus more on teaching morals.
Who would you consider as your contemporary in the industry?
The likes of Bimbo Akintola, Sandra Achums and Eucharia Anunobi. There are others of course, but these are the people I can recollect now.
How do you relax?
By having fun and that depends on where I am and what I am doing.
